For the past few years Yarroway L’Estrella has lived in exile, gathering arcane power, but that power came at a price. Now it’s time for him to do his duty: his uncle, the king, needs him to escort Prince Garith to his wedding, a union that will create an alliance between the two strongest countries in the known world. But Yarrow isn’t the prince’s only guard. A whole company of knights is assigned to the duty, and Yarrow’s not sure he trusts their leader.

Knight Duncan Purefroy isn’t sure he trusts Yarrow either, but after a bizarre occurrence during their travels, they have no choice but to work together—especially since the incident also reveals a disturbing secret, one that might threaten the entire kingdom. But will it ultimately work in their favor?

When a third member joins the precarious alliance, it seems to cement the bonds between all three men. But the arrangement isn’t perfect: Yarrow knows the power inside him and fears getting too close. The mysterious newcomer was raised to believe love and trust are weaknesses. And Duncan struggles to accept them as they are. Saving their home will take everything they have—including the fragile relationship they’ve built.

Excerpt

This was an entertaining fantasy.  I did think at first the characters are a bit flat but as I continued the read I could see where the author was heading with these men.  When you meet each character they are as one would expect the character to be…Yarrow is selfish and cold.  He is purely driven by his own wants and desires.  Duncan is the faithful knight.  He believes in his cause and in making a better world.  Duncan’s first duty is to his mission.  He can care for nothing more than his duty!  Sasha is the assassin.  He is cold, without remorse and lives entirely in the moment, feelings are only a weakness.  As the story progresses you see the changes that occur in each of these characters.

I have seen some bad reviews in reviews of this book in regards to the plot.  The plot is twisty but fairly typical for this kind of fantasy read but that is not where the author is taking this series.  It isn’t as much about the kingdom and what occurs within it.  It is all about these three men and how they grow, each changing the others and becoming more in the so doing.

The one thing I didn’t really expect in the story is the creature that lives in Yarrow.  I’m just not sure about him.  You believe throughout the story he is evil…even at the ending I would say he is evil, but there is something more there.  It will be interesting to see where the author takes this character in the rest of the series.

There were only two other items I noticed.  The “head hopping” and sex scenes.  The head hopping of the point of view added a lot to the story but I do think it could have been at times a bit clearer as to who’s perspective the story was being told from.  The sex scenes were a bit long.  I do not know why they didn’t really have my attention.  They were a bit too formulaic for me as they went.  I think the fact that I got the same feeling from the characters in the first sex scene to the last means something there didn’t go right.

Overall I think the author has done a wonderful job with this book.  It is interesting and different.  There is a similar plot to it but with the underlying story that changes it.  It is a book that stays with you.  I look forward to the next book in the series.

Unaware he has werewolf DNA, Gabriel is stunned to learn after an attack that he now has the ability to change into a wolf. Still reeling from the discovery of his family genetics he is surprised when his wolf self tried to claim a pair of twin fae.

Vien and Viell had come to help Anthony discover more about the mutant threat. When they discover a wolf shifter who claims to want them both they are shocked to realize they might have been looking in the wrong place their entire lives.

Note: There is no sexual contact between the twins.

Excerpt

Gabe is a human that works for Anthony as an architect.  One night after being out with his best friend, Gabe is attacked by mutant werewolves.  Anthony and his guards arrive in time to stop Gabe from becoming a mutant but his recessive werewolf DNA is kick started and Gabe becomes a werewolf.  When Gabe wakes up from all of this he meets his mates, twin faes there to liaison between Anthony and the fae king about the mutant problem.

This book just didn’t do it for me.  I never connected with Gabe or the twins.  Viell we never really get to know at all and Gabe and Vien little more.  The mating is quick, Gabe’s training happens quickly, and the trip to the fae world is quick.  Everything happens very fast with little to no explanation.  I just couldn’t grasp much before it was over.  It all happened so easy too.  Really there was very little angst in the story until the very end and with the depth of the story it didn’t have near the impact it should have.

The writing was jumpy and choppy.  It was more like the book had separate scenes for each major part and they weren’t merged together to create a story, reminds me a bit of reading a journal.  There was natural progression from one “scene” to the next. The ménage isn’t even a true one.  It is more like two relationships together.  The twins don’t interact sexually so for me that makes it less of a true ménage relationship.

I have enjoyed this author before but this was not one of her better works for me.  I would have enjoyed a longer read to actually get to know the characters so I could connect to the story and all that happens.

When James falls in love with Casey, he knows he is in for trouble. Not only is Casey his best friend, he is also straight – or so James thinks, until notorious heartbreaker Danny Rizzo completely shakes things up. With troubled Nick adding his very own demons to the mix, nothing is set, and no-one is safe from surprises. Soon James finds himself faced with the question: Who does he really want to be with? For only one of them will stand by him as he struggles to face a chilling secret buried in his past…

Unique and unconventional, Triangle was first published chapter by chapter on the internet, growing novel-length without being a novel in the classical sense. It is a love story told in fragments, granting glimpses into the complex relationships between James, Danny, Casey, and Nick while always leaving room for imagination.

 Excerpt

To listen to the description of this book becomes very confusing.  There is James, who is THE central character, Casey, James’s best friend and crush, Danny, who likes James and who Casey likes, and last is Nick who comes in about halfway through and is REALLY into Danny.  Yes, this sounds really confusing.  But the first part deals with the triangle of James, Casey, and Danny.  James is a loner who really doesn’t like people.  Casey is way sweet.  He really has no clue when it comes to life.  James has been into Casey for a long time but thinks Casey is too good for him and straight.  Danny is the popular boy that everyone wants and wants to be.  Danny is a thorn in James’s side.  James has seen Danny go through sex companions like tissue.  When he realizes that Casey wants Danny James tries all he can to get Danny to leave.  James really hates Danny.  Suddenly though Danny turns James’s world upside down and shows that he is after James!  Casey wins though when he finds out that James loves him.

The story continues on from there and without giving away everything I will go on to says Nick comes in about halfway through.  Nick is a druggie and alcoholic.  He is in theater with Danny.  Danny sleeps with Nick in order to make James jealous, because James even with Casey finds himself wanting Danny.

Danny is terrible.  He uses people to get what he wants.  He has no idea what it is like to not get something.  He is a spoiled brat that even though he changes with the story I still can’t like.  James isn’t much better but at least I can understand him.  He is cold but is damaged.  He honestly is at heart a good guy just a bit broken.  Casey and Nick aren’t delved into as much.  Casey seems way too…nice.  He is a goody, goody times two.  He is a hard character to believe.  Nick is a totally broken character.  I really felt for Nick.  He is used by Danny and just when he tries to reach out he is rebuffed.  Yes, Nick was an unlikable character for quite a while but he knows it and when given the chance changes.

The authors did a good job of getting the readers into the characters.  The read itself is choppy and jumpy.  This was originally written in chapters online as described.  Still I think the back and forth in time frames was at times difficult to follow and made the reading not flow well.  The changing POV’s were nice in giving us a bit more insight into the other characters.  James being the main force in the story didn’t change but our thoughts of the other characters were influenced by the changes.  They were a good strategy for the reader to sympathize or at least understand the characters and situations from each character’s viewpoint.

Overall, I liked the story.  I thought the concept of the story was a different one and that drew me into reading.  The style of writing could have been smoother even given how it was originally written.  I think also the ultimate turnaround in James, Casey, and Danny wasn’t very believable.  I just couldn’t grasp their changes.  Nick’s was the most realistic.  Though James is the character of focus I didn’t really connect with him like I did Nick.  I think in the end the story pales for me after reading about Nick.  His story just hit me more and seemed to contain a better “feel”.  The three other characters just seemed a bit immature in their relationships.  I do believe by the end the others had made quite the turnaround but they lost something coming to that point.

[Ménage Amour ManLove: Erotic Alternative Paranormal Ménage a Trois Romance, M/M/M, with M/M/F not involving the heroes, vampires, shape-shifters, elves, public exhibition, voyeurism, HEA]

Eirik is tired of being alone after all of his years of service to the Vampire community. When he least expects it, his mates fall into his path. Injured and dying, Eirik must do what he can to save his mates from the separation he knows he won’t survive.

Miles joins his friends for a wild night on the town during his break from college. At the Vampire Bar, Miles almost becomes the main dish until a golden-haired man tries to rescue him, putting them both in the frying pan.

Dominick is on the run from his Pard. He has never fit in anywhere, and he just wants someone to accept his albino status in the Griffon world. While trying to see the sights, he finds his mate at a local bar trying to become the cocktail of the night. Stepping in to save his mate, Dominick realizes he is in way over his head.

Note: This book contains double anal penetration.

Excerpt

So this is the third book in the Guardian City series.  This time we have a new group mating.  Eirik is a vampire, Dominick is a Griffon, and Miles is human.  The three men meet up at and behind a vampire bar.  Eirik is doing an errand for the master of his coven and watching the bar.  Miles is just out for a good time when his friends abandoned him and he is scooped up to be a mess for some vamps.  Dominick tries to save him and loses.  The two men are near death and are being carried out behind the bar when Eirik spots them and recognizes them as his mates.  He goes to save them and calls in his sired brother Demend to help.  Dominick is healing but Miles is dying.  Demend gives Miles a total transfusion to save him.  Of course this is only the start of the three’s adventures.

This story is based around Demend’s sired brother Eirik.  The story really starts with a bang.  If you aren’t one for multiple partners, exhibitionism, and voyeurism don’t read.  There is quite a bit of sex in the book.  At the beginning of the book is a HUGE sex scene.  I do think the writer may need a little work on the reality of sex like described.  I don’t think some of what is described is as easily done as shown.

The characters are what make this book interesting.  The author weaves many different species together along with various bits of lore about them.  She creates a world with lots of prejudices that a group are trying to change and that change is spreading.  These characters are all very different.  They each bring a little something different to the story and the relationships therein.  I enjoyed watching what was happening to them and how they were able to retain themselves while fighting for what they believe.

The writing is still improving.  The flow was smoother and the characters and interactions where better evolved.  For a comfort type read this is an excellent choice.  I think that the writer is developing more skills in weaving the stories together.  With the addition of more characters and books the author is showing a good ability to join them together while keeping the details of each straight.  I do wish there was a little more depth to the stories.  As I said these make good comfort reads but they are not complex, thought provoking books.

This series is getting more interesting as it goes along.  I am wondering what the author has in store for the next book.

“What to Expect When Your Boyfriend is Expecting” by Shae Connor

This was a cute, little story.  Yes, it is shallow but it is fun.  We learn really little about the main character, Zeke.  We know for some reason he came to a different planet in the second landing of humans and met his boyfriend there.  They had a quick relationship and moved in together.  Zeke had no idea that his boyfriend could get pregnant and of course he does.  Now the two are the first cross-species pregnant couple.  They get word that privateers are after his boyfriend and baby.  Poor Zeke ends up in their clutches though.

I really liked the background of the story.  All the little details that make up this world are interesting.  Zeke is a smart man and knows he and his boyfriend are in love and never wavers in his faith in his boyfriend.  I would have loved to have seen more of the background and surrounding story of these two.  I think it would have made an excellent novella with a little more detail.  As is it is just a cute short.

“Spacehunters: Master Elite and the Maternal Order of Loganites Beyond Uranus” by Kage Alan

This was a lighthearted story that was more about humor than story.  It was hilarious!  Some of the “cult” names…lol.  Jayden and Chace are boarding a station illegally to get a scroll.  It is never said what is on the scroll.  It really doesn’t seem to matter in the scheme of things.  Jayden and Chace snark back and forth the whole story long.  At times it is not always easy to follow them but that is the fun of the story.  As I said this is more about humor than anything so the plot and all else is pretty thin, but it is an enjoyable read as it is.  The only trouble that I had is that I got so tired of all the names…it got a little ridiculous.

“B’utopia” by Kiernan Kelly

Hmmm, this one just didn’t catch me.  I thought that Rictor was interesting but personality challenged and Jerrick was just…Blah.  The whole premise of the story sounds good but the actual story just was too over the top for me.

“Free Gift with Purchase” by T.C. Blue

This was a very interesting story.  It is a well thought out one.  I loved the characters.  The story could have had a little more detail too it.  It was tough to be in a short that had so much thrown at you so quickly with little time to truly absorb it.  It could get a little confusing.  I enjoyed the characters.  Mama was a very interesting addition and Miss Jocelyn Uranus, lol!!!  Ah, it was a very enjoyable read.

“Pride of the Rangers” by Angelia Sparrow

This book was definitely not for me.  I didn’t like the characters.  The premise itself was good but it had little feeling in it.  There was lots of sex but it was stilted and lacked any emotional connection for me as a reader.  It also made no sense to me how Cade, Jake, and Frank ended up together.  There really wasn’t a connection there.  I didn’t feel or see it.  I had no sense of Jake and Frank as characters.  One minute Cade hates everyone the next in love…yeah, no.

Roses:  1

Overall the book is trying to be funny and lighthearted but really just ended up being too over the top to really enjoy.  I know this was supposed to be funny but mostly I was glad to finish the book.

Alpha Caleb Redding has spent 20 years trying to bring his first love back into his life. When he finally devises a plan, the Council of Elders agrees to it, but they add their own stipulations. In order for the mate covenant to happen, Caleb has to agree to give up his clan and alpha status, submitting to Grayson.

Alpha Grayson Cane has watched Caleb from afar, never able to touch him or speak to him due to clan conflict. It’s been a heartache that has stabbed at him for 20 years. When a peace treaty comes in the form of a mate covenant between their two clans, Grayson is all too eager to agree, especially when he learns that Caleb must submit to him.

But when the vampire mediator sent to broker the peace agreement disappears, will their second chance at being together also vanish? And what happens when Grayson accidentally mates the vampire while trying to save his life? Will Caleb have to give up his clan, his alpha status, and his dream of being with Grayson? Or will being alpha born have its advantages?

Excerpt

Grayson and Caleb were childhood sweethearts whose romance lead to their werewolf fathers fighting to the death.  Since their fathers were alphas they both have to assume leadership of different clans.  Caleb never wanted to leave Grayson and has been fighting since that day 20 years ago to get back to Grayson.  Now he has a way.  Peace must be achieved between their two clans and Caleb will risk all to have Grayson and peace.  Joel is their vampire mediator that is kidnapped on his way to the meeting.

I loved these three men.  None of them were weak willed characters.  They were all alphas and it showed.  I thought it interesting that the way the men were all raised they didn’t have more issues with “bottoming” for each other.

This book was a little better than some of the author’s work.  More was put into this story and it shows.  The characters are more equal and the plot line, while still obvious, was better written.  The relationships between characters have a little bit of a different dimension, even though it still appears close to insta – love.  The characters more fleshed out, though they still need perfecting.  The setting isn’t a huge deal in most of the book.  It is pretty much glossed over.   Some description is given but you really don’t get a feel for it. Would have loved to feel more of the forest and Joel’s house.   If you are one that enjoyed the author’s other books this one will be that much more appealing.

Sam Reed was born different. It’s a fact he has always known and tried to hide. Abandoned as a baby, he has always felt out of place, never really knowing where he came from or why he can do the things he can.

Jackson Harcourt has long feared the day he will meet his mate. Banished from his birth pack, Jackson soon found himself in charge of a pack of outcasts and misfits, all looking for somewhere to belong. Fifty years ago, Jackson met and fell in love with a seven-hundred-year-old vampire named Alek, and together they have not only built themselves a pack, but a family.

When fate throws Sam, Jackson’s true mate, into Jackson’s path, Alek’s ancient heart feels as though it will finally break into too many pieces to ever again be whole. As Alek prepares for the worst though, he begins to wonder if perhaps fate doesn’t, truly, move in mysterious ways.

Except

Sam is a lonely guy.  His past has been difficult and he doesn’t really know where he comes from.  His mother died in childbirth and there was no father mentioned.  On New Year’s Eve on his way home he runs into Jackson, a naked Jackson, and promptly faints.  When he awakens he finds two men in the room with him.  Jackson and his lover Alek.  He quickly finds out they aren’t just men.  Jackson is an alpha werewolf and Alek is a 700 year plus vampire.  On top of that Jackson says Sam is his mate.  Sam refuses to come between the two men and they all proceed onto a three way relationship.

This is a new author to me.  I really enjoyed the story.  I thought it well written with a good plot and characters.  Sam is a really cute character that has a very soft heart especially for those that have been abused.  Jackson is a very protective man that will do all he can for those he loves.  Alek is all about his men.  Sam is innocent, Jackson earthy, and Alek is all cool perfection.

I really feel that for a first book in a series it was very good.  It ends fairly cleanly but leaves the door open for much more.  It also allows for the reader to want more of the characters and story.  I definitely look forward to the next book.

Three sexy men, one hot relationship. In Room at the Top, devoted sub couple Jay and Austin went looking for a no-strings attached Dom and ended up falling for Liam, who, much to his surprise, turned out to be the Dom of their dreams. But their happy ending was only the beginning of their story.

Now Jay is begging Liam to turn up the heat with fire play and Austin wants them all under one roof, no matter what people might think. Caught up in the difficulties and pleasures of their new relationship, it’s easy to miss the way they’re moving dangerously close to the edge of falling apart, not deeper in love.

 Excerpt

Austin, Jay, and Liam are busy trying to figure out their relationship and how to make it work.  The boys are getting restless, they want more.  Liam is still in the closet because of his career and family.  Still, Liam wants more too.  So what should they do and will it still work between them all if they change up what is between them.  Jay wants to push for more in their scenes too.  He is rebelling but doesn’t know any way to accept without fighting it.  Liam is unsure about his ability to tame Jay and make him trust him.

The writing like the first one is very good.  The characters are complex and individual.  The major thing with this book is the sex.  It plays a huge role in the three’s relationship so of course there is a lot of it in the book.  It was a bit of a disappointment to not really see a lot more in the relationship without sex especially involving Liam.  Liam still seems so separate from Austin and Jay outside of the house.  I know that is what is suppose to be what has to be for Liam’s life it just seemed like a lingering issue that may never get resolved.  Still the rest of the story does deepen and grow the three together more.  I enjoyed learning about fire play since I had never heard of it.

For some people there’s nothing more appealing than the idea of a man forced to serve against his will, as a second-class citizen: a slave. Despite the dark history surrounding forced servitude and slavery, there remains a growing desire for depictions of fetishized slavery fantasies. Like rape fantasy, the appeal for readers in slave fiction lies not in a desire for the actual act, but in the ability to explore such things in a safe space. Many people harbor a secret wish to be forced into certain acts that they know they want, but have been socially conditioned to abhor. Such is the core of the Serve Me anthology. Be warned: these are not stories of consensual, negotiated power exchange. The stories in this anthology focus on true sexualized, erotic slavery: stories of men forced, coerced, or otherwise bound into a second-class life servicing another in whatever ways their master sees fit.

Idris is part of The Spoils of war: the last surviving member of a barbarian clan, he is famed in the gladiatorial arena for his bloody ruthlessness and outside the arena for his carnal appetites. His inner beast is calmed by the presence of his slave and lover, Theo, but to be true to his heart, Idris may have to risk breaking it. Samuel has spent years striving toward the Viscount’s circles, where rich and fantastical parties are given and elaborate slave auctions held. He thinks he wants a young lover, but when he buys an Adonis known as Apollo, he realizes what he was truly missing. Now Apollo gives the orders, and it is Samuel saying, As You WishLife is Unforgiving for Aidan and Aaron, criminals who have been doomed to live as slaves to vampire masters, whose appetites can be agony… or bliss. When Aidan is given a new lease on life with a benevolent Master, his relief is tainted by pain at leaving Aaron behind; pain which only his Master Ryce has the power to end. Yuta is a gentle giant who joins a local gang for the sense of family that they can provide, but when they leave him high and dry in the middle of a failed heist, it’s his captor, Takashima, who shows him what family can really mean as the vicious gang enforcer tenderly turns him into Takashima’s Pet.

“The Spoils” by Anna Hedley

(Warning:  For those that know what a “maenad” is you may have trouble with matching it to the story.)

This is a mix of Graeco-Roman culture and mythology with a dash of other.  The world has very dehumanizing slavery for all creatures.  The thing I thought was interesting was that they had a one line about a shortage of women that was recent but no other explanation or any other mention.  I thought the world was interesting and brutal.  The events that happen sound just terrible and sad but ultimately our “hero” gets redemption.  This was a good read that was well written but missing something.

Roses:  3

“As You Wish” by Gabriel Belthir

This was a much sweeter tale than the last story.  The writing was good, nothing outstanding but good.  The world was a steampunk one, which had a subculture of slave owning.  It seemed that it wasn’t strictly legal but underground and to a degree accepted.  I liked the characters.  Samuel was a cutie and Apollo was a gentle guy.  It seemed to be an unlikely part of his character that he had killed.  I enjoyed the story but it was a little predictable and shallow.

Roses:  3

“Life Is Unforgiving” by Lor Rose

This was another sweet tale.  I really liked this one.  It was really a warm tale all the way through.  When I first started this story I thought it would end up being much grittier.  I still don’t understand why Ryce starts his “relationship” with Aidan the way he did.  I would have liked to hear why.  The rest of what he did makes more sense.  Ryce seems like a romantic guy which with Aidan’s past is nice.  I really liked the ending.  Would love to see a more expanded version of this tale but as is it is a nice comfy read.

Roses:  4

“Takashima’s Pet” by Fox Lee

A bit of rough stuff in this story.  Yuta is a boy in a gang in Tokyo.  He doesn’t really want to be in the gang but wants the companionship and friends it provides.  Takashima is the second in command of Tokyo’s yakuza.   When Yuta is ditched by his so called gang “brothers” while trying to rob Takashima, Takashima takes Yuta.  Yuta is a virgin and after when Takashima realizes this he tells Yuta he belongs to him now.  This is a cute tale actually.  Yes, it has BDSM in it and Takashima called Yuta his dog but they are both very happy in their relationship.  It was actually very sweet.

To be honest this is one of my favorite Carol Lynne books, I know that it topic may not be in everyone’s comfort zone as it involves have twincest as well as aménage relationship in it but Ms Lynne handles it in a truly touching way.  The story is about Donovan and his twin Declan, who have been separated but some miscommunications and unfortunate circumstances for a number of years. When tragedy strikes Delcan turns to his twin for help.  Donovan and Marc come to his rescue. The book also deals with domestic violence and abuse, but also surviving it and coming out of it a stronger person. The relationship between the characters can all stand alone as well as together which makes it such a good read. I truly find this worth the read. Ms Lynne wrote a beautiful book
